Homicides By Police Reach An All-Time High In 2015, Nearly Double The Rate Of Previous Record

As first reported by the Washington Post, homicides by on-duty Law Enforcement Officers have reached an all-time high in 2015.  Although, the number of deaths by law enforcement officers is a particularly nebulous figure as 'justifiable homicides' are self-report data, i.e. submitted on a voluntary basis by law enforcement agencies, as such the following data represent only a fraction of the actual homicides.

The following figure compares 'justifiable homicides' by law enforcement officers and citizens over the previous 20 years.

Data were collected form the FBI's Uniform Crime Report and the Washington Post.
